What are some of the ways groups of people are identified? There are several ways that groups of people are identified. For starters, and probably the most obvious, is the racial group. Ethnicity is based on the person’s origin, therefore in this group we’d categorize people according to where their ancestors are from. They are able to reach all target groups who would like to stay in a hotel or residence. Bargaining power of buyers The bargaining power of buyers is very great within the lodging industry since the buyers have a very wide range of providers which offer almost similar products. Customers will go where they have the best value for their money. Monitoring amp; Evaluating the Strategic Performance After discussing the subjects ‘Introduction to strategy’, ‘Conducting a situation analysis’, ‘Developing a strategic direction’, ‘Formulating a strategy’ and ‘Implementing a strategy’, we arrived at the last but most important part of this academic report: ‘Monitoring and Evaluating Strategic Performance’ of Marriott International. Organizations can  develop  a strategy,  but if  they do not  monitor and measure  whether the  goals  of this  strategy  are reached, formulating a strategy makes no sense. It is certain that evaluating and monitoring are the most important parts of the whole ‘strategy process’. It is shown that the current strategy of Marriott International is adequate and there is no reason to switch to a new strategy. However, it is important  to consider if the current strategy aligns the business goals  which have emerged  in the mission and  vision. A model that offers a solution to do this is the ‘Business Balanced Scorecard’, by Robert Kaplan en David Norton. What is the balanced scorecard model exactly? ‘The balanced scorecard is a strategic planning and management system  used to align business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization, improve internal and external communications, and monitor organizational performance via multiple measures against strategic goals’, according to Norton and Kaplan (1992). How can the balanced scorecard be valuable for Marriott International? The organizations follows the differentiation strategy which fits best because of their wide brand portfolio. An internal analysis has been conducted with McKinsey’s 7S model I have concluded that they concentrate on growth, optimization of profit and roduct and service leadership. To pursue this they develop a highly skilled workforce with extensive operational knowledge following the divisionalized form according to the organizational structures by Mintzberg. A weakness is the business model which has the potential to dilute the brand perception and limit the revenue growth by analyzing the external si tuation I concluded that there is a strong growth in the hotel and motel industry in emerging markets a threat at the same time is a fragmented and intensely competitive lodging industry. Remarkable is that Marriott not provided a mission or vision statement in the traditional sense. It might be a strategic decision but I would recommend them to focus on creating these, as they are the guidelines for the company’s strategy. According to Porter’s Generic Strategies Marriott follows the ‘Differentiation Strategy’. The company is always looking for innovation to serve their guests in the best way; they offer every type of stay experience. Together with their focus and attention for development of their employees. For Marriott to be able to distinguish themselves from their competitors, according to Porter’s 5 forces model, is that they need to keep focused on their core values and corporate culture which leads to customer loyalty and innovation. Marriott International follows the correct strategy. This strategy has been used and proved successful. Therefore there is not formulated a new strategy which has to be implemented. But it may be important for the Marriott to better deepen their current â€Å"Differentiation Strategy†. This is especially important to continue differentiating themselves from competitors. They could do this by the strategy of ‘Customer Intimacy’ from Treacy and Wiersma. It is shown that the current strategy of Marriott International is adequate and there is no reason to switch to a new strategy. However, it is important  to consider if the current strategy aligns the business goals  which have emerged  in the mission and  vision. A model that offers a solution to do this is the ‘Business Balanced Scorecard’, by Robert Kaplan en David Norton This model measures a company’s performance. By applying the Balanced score card and their set KPI’s they are able to measure and evaluate their performance. And eventually adjust and redirect their strategy in the right way. We can conclude that Marriott is doing very well within the lodging industry. If they keep on focusing on their growth, special attention for their employees and guests and willingness to change when necessary they will maintain their position as one of the biggest players within the hospitality market. The Many Facets of Happiness

The Many Facets of Happiness "Happiness" is a word with many diverse meanings. The Webster's Deluxe Unabridged Dictionary and Bartlett's Roget's Thesaurus gave definitions and synonyms and various resources discussed "happiness" in very different ways. The Home Book of Shakespeare Quotations described how "happiness" would look if it were personified. An article in the "Washington Post" and The Columbia Granger's World of Poetry inferred that "happiness" is a temporary frame of mind, yet The Oxford Dictionary of Phrase, Saying, and Quotation inferred that "happiness" could possibly last a lifetime. After researching the word "happiness," I have concluded that "happiness" is a frame of mind to which there are many facets.To begin my research, I looked in an unabridged dictionary and looked up the word "happiness." The definition according to the Webster's Deluxe Unabridged Dictionary is "the enjoyment of pleasure without pain; felicity; blessedness satisfaction (825). The Icelandic people used words such has, "ha pp, good luck, chance, and hap" (825).English: George Bernard Shaw, Nobel laureate in Li...These forms of the word later evolved into the word "happiness." The Unabridged Dictionary provided me with a consistent usage and etymology of the word "happiness."I continued my research by looking up the word "happiness" in Bartlett's Roget's Thesaurus. Roget's supplied me with an abundance of synonyms. The words included "pleasure, joy, satisfaction, rejoicing, welfare, and prosperity" (1012). All of these words are positive words and all fit together. One thing I noticed about these words is that all the synonyms are a state of mind or a state of being. Everyone's idea of "happiness" may be different. What one person thinks "satisfaction" is may be different to someone else's idea of "satisfaction." The reason of having this decline is the gross margin of the private market comparing to the margin of the premium market. Sales price and cost in private market are less than what they are in the premium market. Cash flows are not stable during the year. It looks vary from quarter to another. In the cash flows, the retailers will pay in 90days (3months) period of time as what it is in the private market. The cash opining was 50% in the first month and 25% in next 2 months. The other expenses were divided by the 12 months equally. Variable and selling costs are showing in page(5). I don’t recommend the full transition to private market. The profit will be lower than what it is even if it is less volatile. There is no reason for the company to lose its premium market if the profit is low, too. I would support the chance of mixing the premium and the private markets together, because of the profitability there.

In this essay I will look at the strengths and weaknesses of using the Boston Matrix to help make decisions in business. I will first briefly explain the Boston Matrix and then analyse its effectiveness as an aid to making a marketing strategy. Like Ansoff's matrix, the Boston Matrix is a well known tool for marketing managers. It was developed by the large US consulting group and is a way that a business can compare all of its products. The two aspects it looks at are market share (relative to that of competitors) and market growth. To use it you would look at all of your products and sort them into 4 categories, stars (products with a high market growth and a high market share), cash cows (high market share in a market with little growth), problem children/question marks (low market share in a growing market) and dogs (low market share in a market with no growth). There needs to be an equilibrium of the different types in your product portfolio. Never have any dogs, but try and keep the same amount of the other 3 types. This means that funds can be evenly distributed between the 3, money generated from cash cows needs to be spent turning problem children into stars, which will eventually become cash cows, and the cycle continues. Some problem children will become dogs, and money from cash cows m ay also have to be spent compensating for these failures. Homosexuality in School Essay

Of the many emotions a gay man or woman feel, perhaps the most powerful pervasive is fear. The fear of being found out ir real enough, but the worry does not end there. There are the fears of being bullied by your peers, being make fun of and even been killed. For a lesbian and gay teenager, who lack experience and life skills to cope with them, such fears can be overwhelming. Lesbian, gay and bisexual youth face many problems as they realize they are homosexual. And they have to face all this problems at school where many teenagers are judgmental. Many of these teens cant handle the bullying and abused so they turned to homeschooling, running away from home and even suicide. It is unacceptable for young gay men and lesbians to experience levels of prejudice and discrimination that mar their developing years and their school experiences. They, just as much as anyone, should be able to look back warmly on their school days, without rembering bully, name calling, and exclusion. It is common for young people to use words associated with homosexuality as insults or, more generally, as negative adjectives. The prejudice can cause great distress for gay or lesbian pupils, who, gradually becoming aware of their sexuality, come to realize that they are a member of a despised group. This can affect self-stem badly and be a very upsetting time. As they grow older, gay pupils are faced with they very difficult decision of whether to come out and be openly gay at school, or whether to try to hide their sexual identity form their peers. Many homosexual teenager don’t know how to deal with this problems, so they often recurred to drugs in search for some outlet. Many start developing mental problems like depression and anxiety. Because fo the prejudice and the bullying in school that homosexual teens received they don’t get help, they don’t want to tell their teachers as they are afraid they will judge them. By not getting help many of them feel they don’t have another option than ending their life. According to pflagphoenix.org over 30% of all reported teen suicides each year are committed by gay and lesbian youth. Various sexual health issues, specifically HIV, for young gay men are disproportionally affect the lack of information there. They need to receive the information that eill enable them to identify risks, and to take action to protect themselves before they reach an age when they will become sexually active. An education system that falls in this regard is one that puts live at risk. Schools do not always do enough to address these problems, and in some cases, can even add to them. All too often, even if sexual health education does exist, it doesn’t even mention gay people. According to statistics by yotuhprideri.org a website made to inform about the problems that young homosexual faced. According to them 84% of homosexual students report being verbally harassed (name calling, threats, etc.) because of their sexual orientation. And 80% of gay and bisexual youth report severe problems with cognitive, social or emotional isolation. What is needed to help improve their situation? The school system exists to educate and prepare young people for place in adult society. If foes not provide gay pupils with the information they need to have safe sexual relationship, and allows other pupils to leave school with prejudice and a lack of understanding of gay issues, then the school system has failed some education providers have taken s steps to ensure young people receive sexual health education that contains a component for gay pupils. There are also an increasing number of schools that have specific policies for tackling homophobic bullying and discrimination. In such an environment, gay and lesbian teachers are more able to come out to students and staff, acting as vital role models for young people There are still problem for homosexual students in school, but we have to look at the things that are changing. For example media is becoming more aware and open to the problem and represented homosexuality in teenagers as a good thing. In many of the big cities they are being more opened to homosexuality, many school are even bringing more information about sexuality. More school are hiring homosexual teachers to show there more open minded state. These are small steps to achieve more freedom for homosexual teenagers in school and in society, but still remember that they are many who are suffering and we can not stop until this problem is ended.

Following five children through their struggle of being accepted into a charter school is a use of pathos. The director does this in a few different ways.
